Nigerian Government Launches Discount Shop for Troops

The federal government launched the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) Personnel Online Discount Shop, a welfare initiative aimed at offering serving personnel, veterans, and their families access to essential goods at discounted prices. The platform was inaugurated on September 24, 2026, in Abuja by Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

He praised Gen. O.O. Oluyede, the Chief of Defence Staff, and all stakeholders involved in the initiative.

Akume emphasized that the welfare of military personnel extends beyond operational capabilities and is crucial for maintaining a motivated Armed Forces. The initiative, described by Chris Ugwuegbulam, head of information in Akume's office, as part of the Federal Government’s welfare framework, aims to alleviate financial pressures and improve access to essential goods.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Defence Headquarters and Zinox Group to facilitate this initiative, which leverages digital technology through the Konga platform. Akume urged stakeholders to ensure transparent implementation and expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support.
