Senate Leader Urges Peace Over Radical Doctrines

During the Eid al-Fitr celebrations, Opeyemi Bamidele, the Senate leader representing Ekiti Central, counseled religious leaders in Nigeria against preaching radical doctrines. He emphasized the importance of shunning religious extremism and adopting a peaceful approach to coexistence among Nigerians.

Bamidele stated that military strategies alone are insufficient to address the challenges posed by violent extremism and terrorism. He called for sermons centered on peace and urged political office holders to engage with a larger percentage of the Nigerian populace.

Bamidele commended the defense and intelligence security community for their efforts in combating these challenges but stressed the need for a recalibrated strategy to counter violent extremism. He advocated for a focus on human capital development and dialogue to resolve inter-ethnic conflicts, rather than resorting to armed struggle.

Bamidele's message highlighted the role of religious and socio-cultural leaders in fostering tolerance and preventing radicalization.
