ACF and Makarfi Call for Resilience Amid Hardship

During the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and around the world for successfully completing the 1447AH Ramadan fast. In a statement issued by Prof. Tukur Muhammad Baba, the forum highlighted the significance of the Ramadan period for fervent worship and sacrifice.

The ACF noted the challenges faced by Nigerians, particularly in the northern regions, where widespread hardship and multidimensional poverty persist. They expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation, citing persistent attacks by non-state actors in states such as Benue, Niger, Plateau, Kogi, and Kwara, as well as threats from extremist groups in the northeast.

The forum also raised alarms about alleged extrajudicial arrests and prolonged detentions, warning that such actions undermine democratic principles. Ahmed Makarfi, the former governor of Kaduna State, echoed these sentiments, urging Nigerians to maintain the lessons of Ramadan, emphasizing charity and unity, and to support collective efforts towards peace and national development.
