ACF Warns Nigeria Remains Poverty Capital Amid Hardships

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has raised alarms regarding Nigeria's continued position as the poverty capital of the world, particularly affecting the northern region. In a statement issued by the forum's national public secretary, Prof. Muhammad Baba, they noted the dire economic conditions that contradict official claims of improvement.

The ACF emphasized the overwhelming proportion of citizens facing multidimensional poverty and highlighted the ongoing challenges, including insecurity from non-state actors and religious extremism. They pointed out that the current political climate, characterized by extra-judicial arrests and prolonged detention, exacerbates public despair.

The forum called for patience and steadfastness among the populace, urging politicians to embody values of prudence and introspection as they prepare for the 2027 elections. The ACF believes that while the situation is dire, it is not insurmountable and advocates for the implementation of good governance principles to improve conditions for Nigerians.
