Oyo State Bans Livestock Sales on Major Roads for Eid

The Oyo State Government issued a warning on Thursday against the sale of cows and rams on major roads during the forthcoming Eid-el-Kabir festival. This announcement was made by the state governor and is aimed at enforcing the 2019 anti-open grazing law, which is designed to mitigate conflicts between herders and farmers.

A stakeholder summit held in Ibadan emphasized the need for compliance with this law, which is intended to protect farmland and promote public safety. Aderonk Aderemi, the chairperson of the Justice Commission, stated that strict adherence to the law is crucial for maintaining peace and security in the state.

The government plans to collaborate with law enforcement agencies to ensure compliance and raise awareness among stakeholders. Violators caught selling livestock on major roads will face penalties, including fines and confiscation of animals.

The state government urged traders to respect the law and avoid illegal market activities during the festival.
