Eid-el-Kabir: Ram Prices Surge Ahead of Celebrations

As Muslims prepare for the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, prices of rams and other essential commodities have significantly increased across Nigeria. In Kaduna State, market surveys reveal that the price of rams varies between N300,000 and N1 million, depending on size.

Alhaji Bulama, a senior manager at the Ram Seller Association, attributed the price hike to a shortage of rams, exacerbated by insecurity that has displaced families and reduced livestock rearing. Additionally, the prices of chickens have also risen, with three-month-old chickens selling for N20,000 to N30,000.

The cost of a bag of rice has increased to N80,000. Mallam Musa Adamu, who sells various animals, noted that high transportation costs further contribute to the rising prices.

Despite these challenges, Dr. Musa stated that he plans to slaughter a ram for the season regardless of the cost, emphasizing the necessity of this religious practice.

He advised fellow Muslims to be cautious with their spending during the celebrations.
