Traders and Riders Defy Movement Restriction in Ekiti

On the day of the governorship election in Ekiti State, Okada riders, tricyclists, and traders in Ado Ekiti disregarded a movement restriction imposed by the police. The restriction was announced by Mr.

Abayomi Shogunle, the police commissioner, and was set to last from midnight Friday until 6 PM Saturday as part of security arrangements for the election. Despite this, commercial motorcyclist Mr.

Oluwadar Adeley continued to carry passengers, believing that the election would be an easy victory for Governor Biodun Oyebanji. Tricyclist Mr.

Mose Ajibad acknowledged the police directive but felt compelled to work due to economic realities, stating he needed to provide for his family. Trader Mr.

Funmilayo Abolad, who sold perishable goods, expressed that she could not afford to stay away from the market, as her goods would spoil. She admitted awareness of the restriction but felt she had no alternative but to continue trading before casting her vote later.
