Oyebanji Presents Six Issues to Election Tribunal

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has formulated six issues for determination before the Election Petition Tribunal concerning the petitions arising from the June 20 governorship election. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Oyebanji the winner with 319,224 votes, while Dr Oluwole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) received 40,543 votes, and Chief Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came third with 12,872 votes.

The SDP and Action Alliance (AA) filed two petitions before the tribunal, chaired by Justice Abubakar Kutigi, with the SDP candidate Adebayo Alade polling 179 votes and AA candidate Olu Omotoso obtaining 126 votes. Oluyede has withdrawn his petition.

Oyebanji's six issues challenge the competence of the SDP's petition and the validity of his election, while five similar issues were formulated for the AA's petition. The tribunal is set to continue its proceedings in Ado Ekiti.
