Ekiti State Gains UN-Habitat Approval for Urban Development

On Wednesday, the Ekiti State Government announced that it has secured approval from UN-Habitat for its Sustainable Urban Development Program (EKSUDP). This approval was granted during a recent project review committee session held in Nairobi, with Oumar Sylla, the Director of the Regional Office for Africa, signing the official communication.

Taiwo Olatunbosun, the Commissioner for Urban Development in Ekiti State, described this approval as a landmark achievement that highlights the state's growing reputation and commitment to sustainable development strategies. The EKSUDP is designed as an integrated framework addressing key areas such as spatial planning, land administration, urban resilience, and solid waste management, aligning with global development priorities, particularly Sustainable Development Goal 11, which focuses on sustainable cities and communities.

Furthermore, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Ekiti State and UN-Habitat in June 2023 to establish a collaborative framework for urban development, which is expected to enhance the region's urban renewal initiatives and build stakeholder capacity.
