Ekiti Stakeholders Push for Sickle Cell Disease Policy

Stakeholders in Ekiti State have called for the establishment of a comprehensive policy framework to improve the prevention, treatment, and management of sickle cell disease. This call was made during a strategic meeting in Ado-Ekiti organized by Olanipekun Ayomide Initiatives, where a proposed five-year strategic roadmap (2026–2031) was discussed.

Dr. Ayomide Olanipekun, Executive Director of OA Initiatives, stated that while the Ekiti State Government has shown commitment through health insurance and other interventions, a robust policy framework is essential for sustaining these efforts.

The proposed roadmap aims to enhance healthcare delivery, public awareness, and anti-discrimination measures for sickle cell patients. Additionally, the organization is advocating for a dedicated sickle cell referral center in the state.

The meeting also celebrated the graduation of 29 participants from the Sickle Cell Action Community Health Fellowship, aimed at equipping young advocates to combat stigma and promote early diagnosis and quality healthcare.
