Ekiti State Government Promotes Cultural Festivals for Tourism

The Ekiti State Government is taking steps to unlock the tourism potential of the state through the promotion of cultural festivals. Wale Ojo-Lanre, the Director-General of the Ekiti State Bureau of Tourism Development, announced that communities are encouraged to formally register their cultural festivals with the bureau.

This initiative aims to enhance visibility, preserve cultural heritage, and unlock economic opportunities associated with tourism. Ojo-Lanre stated that registration is mandated by law and will facilitate better coordination, branding, and legal recognition of festivals.

He highlighted the economic benefits, citing over 3,000 visitors attracted to Ado-Ekiti during a recent cultural event. The administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji has focused on tourism, including the completion of the Ekiti State International Cargo Airport, which has improved access to the state.

The Chairman of Ekiti East Local Government, Oluwasegun Ojo, noted that the revival of the Epa Festival reflects the community's desire to reconnect with its cultural heritage.
