UK Partners with Ekiti to Boost Digital Transformation

The United Kingdom Government has formed a partnership with the Ekiti State Government to accelerate digital transformation in the state, focusing on policy, regulatory, and institutional reforms to strengthen the digital economy. This initiative was announced at a stakeholders’ engagement forum in Ado-Ekiti, organized by the Ekiti State Ministry of Innovation, Science and Digital Economy in collaboration with the Initiative for Digital Inclusion and supported by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Digital Economy, Seun Fakuade, emphasized the state government's commitment to leveraging Ekiti's educational achievements for innovation and economic growth. The administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji has prioritized digital infrastructure and skills for youth.

Ekiti has established a public-sector-led Startup Garage and is developing a larger facility for innovators. The state also hosts a Digital Innovation City to enhance digital skills from primary education to university.

The partnership has already benefited six youths through the Young Innovators Programme.
