Eko Hotel and Suites Celebrates 50 Years of Hospitality

Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos, celebrated its 50th anniversary, reflecting its status as a cultural and hospitality landmark in Nigeria. Originally constructed in the 1970s to host the Second World Black and African Festival of Arts and Culture (Festac '77), the hotel has evolved significantly over the decades.

It was designed by Nigerian architect Oluwol Olumuyiwa and has transformed from Eko Holiday Inn to Eko Le Meridien, ultimately becoming Eko Hotel and Suites, which is now considered one of the largest hospitality facilities in West Africa. The venue recently hosted the Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards on May 9, 2026, showcasing Nigerian talent in a spectacular fashion event.

Notable attendees included fashion stars like Nana Akua Addo and actress Osa Ighodaro, who wore stunning designs that highlighted the creativity and innovation within the Nigerian fashion industry. The anniversary serves as a tribute to the hotel's contributions to Lagos as a cultural and tourist destination.
