Troost-Ekong Critiques CAF and FIFA Over Football Rulings

William Troost-Ekong, a key player for Nigeria, has publicly criticized the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA regarding their recent decisions that he believes undermine the governance of African football. He expressed concerns that off-field rulings are beginning to overshadow on-field actions, particularly referencing two high-profile cases.

The first case involved Morocco's 3-0 victory awarded in a match against Senegal, which followed a brief walk-off during the final in January. The CAF's appeal board cited breaches of Articles 82 and 84 in their ruling.

The second case pertains to Nigeria's protest against DR Congo during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, where the Nigeria Football Federation argued that DR Congo fielded an ineligible player. However, FIFA dismissed Nigeria's complaint on procedural grounds, stating that Nigeria failed to meet submission deadlines and did not pay the required fees.

Troost-Ekong emphasized the need for stronger oversight in the decision-making processes of CAF.
