El-Rufai Calls for Probe of Judge in Corruption Case

Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has demanded an urgent investigation into Judge R.M. Aikawa, accusing the Federal High Court of bias in the corruption trial against him.

El-Rufai's legal team has raised concerns about the fairness of the proceedings, noting that he submitted a petition to the National Judicial Council (NJC) on February 2025, which has yet to receive a response. In a letter dated March 9, 2026, addressed to Chief Justice of Nigeria Kudirat Keker Ekun, El-Rufai expressed frustration over the NJC's delay in addressing his complaints.

He is facing 10 counts of corruption, including allegations of abuse of office and money laundering. El-Rufai argues that Judge Aikawa's handling of the case raises concerns about impartiality and fairness, warning that unchecked judicial actions could lead to a breakdown of public trust in the justice system.

The NJC confirmed that they are reviewing the matter and have requested a response from Judge Aikawa.
