El-Rufai's Corruption Trial Set for June 1, 2026

The Federal High Court in Kaduna has scheduled the corruption trial of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai for June 1, 2026. The case, instituted by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), involves allegations of financial misconduct, including the unauthorized release of billions of naira for projects that were reportedly not executed during El-Rufai's tenure.

On April 14, Justice Rilwanu Aikawa admitted El-Rufai to bail in the sum of N200 million, requiring two sureties, one being a senior civil servant not below grade level 15 and the other an elder statesman. The court also ordered that El-Rufai remain in ICPC custody until the bail conditions are met.

During the proceedings, the defense counsel, Mustapha Abubakar, indicated that they were not ready to move the application immediately. The court has adjourned the matter until June 1 to rule on a motion seeking to vary the bail conditions.
