El-Rufai Defects to ADC Amid Political Realignments

During a plenary session on Thursday, Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, formally announced his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The announcement was made as the House resumed legislative activities, with Speaker Abba Tajudeen reading El-Rufai's defection letter on the floor, confirming his exit from the APC.

El-Rufai was not alone in this political shift; three other lawmakers, Umar Ajilo and Suleiman Yahaya Richifa, also switched from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) during the same session. This series of defections reflects the intensifying political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections in Nigeria.
