Court Approves El-Rufai's Medical Treatment in Custody

The Federal High Court in Kaduna has granted former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai permission to receive medical treatment for eye and dental issues while remaining in custody. El-Rufai is facing ten counts of money laundering and corruption, alongside co-defendant Joel Adoga.

The court's decision, made on a Wednesday, followed a request from El-Rufai's defense team to allow him access to medical care at Mile Dental Clinic and Skipper Eye Hospital in Abuja. Justice Rilwan Aikawa approved the request, ordering that El-Rufai be moved to the hospitals under tight security and returned to custody immediately after treatment.

The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) will supervise his movements to ensure compliance with bail terms. El-Rufai was previously granted bail set at N200 million, with two sureties, and the matter has been adjourned to May 7, 2026, to rule on a request to change bail conditions.
