El-Rufai Details Attempted Detention at Abuja Airport

Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, detailed an incident at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport where he faced an attempted unlawful detention by security operatives upon his return from Cairo, Egypt, on Thursday. El-Rufai described the encounter as an attempt to abduct him without due process, asserting that 50 operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS) were instructed to detain him.

He resisted their attempts, demanding a written invitation to accompany them. Civil rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju condemned the incident, arguing it represented political persecution against El-Rufai, who has been a vocal critic of the current administration.

El-Rufai's lawyer suggested the incident might involve the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), although he clarified that it was not initiated by the EFCC. El-Rufai emphasized that actions taken during his tenure were properly documented and expressed concerns over ongoing political persecution.
