El-Rufai Condemns Illegal Attempted Arrest at Abuja Airport

Former Kaduna State Governor, El-Rufai, condemned an attempted arrest by security operatives at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja as illegal. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had invited him for questioning, but the Department of State Services (DSS) allegedly attempted to arrest him without a warrant or formal invitation.

El-Rufai's lawyer, Ubong Esop Akpan, criticized the EFCC for the improper handling of the situation. El-Rufai maintained that there was no justifiable basis for the attempted arrest and criticized it as a cowardly act.

The incident has sparked controversy over the rule of law and law enforcement practices in Nigeria.
