Shehu Sani Blames El-Rufai's Detention on Past Actions

Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani claimed that the prolonged detention of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai is a result of his actions while in office. During an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Sani alleged that El-Rufai's administration, which lasted from 2015 to 2023, was marked by "misgovernance, irresponsible leadership, and the use of statecraft to attack and jail opponents." Sani noted that El-Rufai has been in detention for approximately 200 days and warned that individuals in power should remember the transient nature of their positions.

He also commented on the loss of support that El-Rufai is experiencing while in detention, stating that it is common for people to lose relationships when they are no longer influential. Sani criticized the security measures taken by El-Rufai's administration, arguing that they were ineffective in addressing the violence in Southern and Central Kaduna.

He also accused El-Rufai of inconsistency regarding negotiations with bandits during his tenure.
