UK Ministers Resign as Pressure Mounts on Starmer

On Tuesday, three junior ministers, Jess Phillips, Miatta Fahnbulleh, and Alex Davies-Jones, resigned in protest of Prime Minister Keir Starmer's leadership, which has come under scrutiny after the Labour Party's disappointing results in last week's local elections. Phillips, a prominent women's rights campaigner, expressed in her resignation letter that Labour has stalled in its progress and cannot continue under the current leadership.

Following the election defeat, 80 Labour lawmakers publicly called for Starmer to set a timeline for his departure. Starmer, however, rejected these calls during a cabinet meeting, stating he takes responsibility for the electoral defeat and will focus on governance.

The situation has led to speculation about potential leadership challenges, with figures like Angela Rayner and Andi Burnham being mentioned as possible contenders. Burnham, currently the Mayor of Greater Manchester, would need to secure a parliamentary seat to mount a leadership challenge.

Polls indicate a significant portion of the public believes Starmer is not an effective Prime Minister.
