Electoral Violence in Osun State Raises Accountability Concerns

The August 15 governorship election in Osun State was overshadowed by incidents of violence and intimidation, raising concerns about electoral integrity as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections. The Imole Campaign Council of the Accord Party has begun a post-election review to document victims of this violence, including those who lost their lives or sustained injuries.

The review will cover all affected individuals across the 30 local government areas. Notably, Ajayi Aderogba, an Accord Party supporter, was killed in Esa-Oke in June, and the APC alleged that its members were also victims of violence.

The Imole Campaign Council identified several individuals, including Kolade Eluyera, Ezekiel Olapade, and Timilehin Oni, as those allegedly killed. Additionally, over 100 campaign coordinators and supporters of Adeleke were reportedly arrested and detained during the campaign.

The spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, emphasized the need for accountability and thorough documentation of all victims.
