Osun Poll Sees 17 Violent Incidents, 44 Victims Reported

Kimpact Development Initiative (KDI) reported that 17 incidents of election-related violence occurred across 10 Local Government Areas in Osun State during the governorship election on August 15, 2026, with more than 44 victims. The incidents included gunshots, physical assaults, intimidation, and harassment, documented through KDI's Election Day Data Room.

Bukola Idowu, KDI Executive Director, stated that the violence disrupted voting at Iroyin Ayo Open Space in Ejigbo, resulting in the cancellation of the election there. Gunshots, physical assaults, and intimidation each accounted for five incidents, while harassment accounted for two.

Ejigbo and Osogbo recorded the highest number of incidents. KDI noted that while the violence was localized, it raised concerns about the security situation, with 81 incidents and 15 fatalities reported between October 2025 and August 2026.

KDI urged security authorities to investigate and prosecute those responsible for the violence and called for transparency in the prosecution of electoral offences.
