Kenneth Okonkwo Slams Nigerian Senate for Approving Manual Election Result Transmission

Kenneth Okonkwo, a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), strongly condemned the Nigerian Senate's approval of manual transmission of election results. The Senate's amendment to the Electoral Act during a plenary session on Tuesday allows for the President to transmit election results from polling units electronically or manually, based on the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) discretion.

This decision came after the Senate initially rejected electronic transmission, citing technical glitches. Okonkwo, in an interview with Channel TV, described the Senate's actions as treachery and deceit, likening the outcome to the fraudulent activities associated with the term "419." He emphasized the need for unconditional transmission of election results from polling units in the upcoming 2023 elections, regardless of any technical challenges.

The move has generated significant public backlash and raised concerns about the transparency and integrity of future elections in Nigeria.
