EERC Grants 20-Year Power License to MainPower in Enugu

On Friday, the Enugu Electricity Regulatory Commission (EERC) issued a 20-year power distribution license to MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited (MPEDL), making it the first distribution company to receive such a license under the Enugu State Electricity Law 2023. Mr.

Chijiok Okonkwo, the Chairman of EERC, highlighted the historical significance of this event, noting that MPEDL will be responsible for distributing electricity to customers across Enugu State. The commission will assume full regulatory oversight of the electricity sector in Enugu State starting October 2024, with a mandate to develop an efficient electricity market ensuring universal access to power.

Ernest Mupwaya, the General Manager of MainPower, expressed satisfaction with the achievement, emphasizing the importance of stakeholder support in developing a robust electricity market. The license covers a 20-year operational period, during which MainPower aims to improve its distribution operations and service delivery.
