Elegba Becomes 23rd NISTRUCT President, Focuses on Safety

Taiwo Hassan Olusola Elegba was formally invested as the 23rd President of the Nigerian Institute of Structural Engineers (NISTRUCT) during a ceremony at the Muson Centre in Marina, Lagos. Elegba outlined a four-point agenda focusing on reinforcing the essence of structural engineering, promoting future-ready sustainability, and redefining the role of structural engineers in Nigeria.

He emphasized the importance of public safety and the need for continuous professional development (CPD) to ensure technical competence and ethical conduct. Elegba highlighted the construction sector's significant contribution to global greenhouse gas emissions, urging industry players to transition towards low-carbon designs.

He noted the increasing frequency of extreme weather events due to climate change, making resilience a non-negotiable requirement for modern infrastructure design. Additionally, he called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and government agencies, and announced plans to prioritize green construction initiatives.
