Emefiele Not Beneficiary of $6.2M Fraud, EFCC Witness Says

During a court session on Thursday, Eloho Okpoziakpo, a witness for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), stated that former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele did not benefit from the $6.2 million fraud case. Emefiele is facing charges of criminal breach of trust, forgery, abuse of office, and conspiracy to obtain money under false pretenses.

He has pleaded not guilty to these charges. The court heard that Emefiele denied ever approving the release of funds to anyone.

The witness also mentioned that Jibril Abubakar, who was involved in the investigation, had collected the funds but later revealed that he had stolen the money. The court proceedings included discussions about forgery allegations against the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, and the need for forensic examinations of signatures.

Justice Hamza Muazu adjourned the case until Friday for further proceedings.
