Emeka Ike Sues INEC for N10bn Over Voter Data Leak

Emeka Ike, a Nollywood actor, has initiated legal proceedings against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and D. Lere Olayinka, an aide to Nyesom Wike, over an alleged unauthorized disclosure of his voter registration information.

The lawsuit, filed in the Federal High Court in Abuja on June 15, 2026, demands N10 billion in damages. Ike claims that his personal data was obtained and published without his consent, violating his constitutional right to privacy as protected under Section 37 of the 1999 Constitution and relevant provisions of the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

The actor's lawyer, Leonard Adeh, contends that the information was shared on social media without authorization, leading to a breach of privacy. Ike seeks a court order to compel Olayinka to remove the information from public view and issue a written apology, while also holding INEC responsible for failing to safeguard voter data against unauthorized access.
