NDPC Investigates INEC Over Emeka Ike Data Leak

The National Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has initiated an investigation into the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) concerning a data leak involving Emeka Ike, a Nollywood actor and politician. The NDPC, led by Chief Executive Dr. Vincent Olatunji, is treating the matter with urgency due to its implications for electoral integrity and public trust.

The investigation was prompted by a report from Nyesom Wike's Senior Special Assistant, Lere Olayinka, who alleged that Emeka Ike's voter information was improperly accessed and shared via social media. Olayinka's post included sensitive details such as Ike's application number and voter identification number.

INEC has denied any major breach, attributing the incident to misuse of valid internal credentials rather than a cyberattack. The NDPC is evaluating several complaints related to the incident and is committed to a thorough investigation, emphasizing the need for privacy and adherence to due process in handling data breaches.
