INEC Investigates Unauthorized Access to Voter Data

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced an investigation into allegations of unauthorized access to voter registration data, which was reportedly linked to Emeka Ike and published by Lere Olayinka. The statement, issued by INEC Chairman Moham Kudu Haruna on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, clarified that the commission's audit trail would help identify the user accounts involved in the incident.

Preliminary findings indicated that the information was accessed by valid users assigned to the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. INEC emphasized that there was no external breach of its database or ICT infrastructure, and the integrity of the broader voter registration system, which includes data on 90 million registered voters, remains intact.

The commission is committed to ensuring the security and confidentiality of voter data and will take legal action against anyone found culpable. INEC has urged the public and media to disregard unfounded speculation as the investigation continues.
