Emeka Ike Sues INEC Over Voter Registration Disclosure

Emeka Ike, a House of Representatives aspirant for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and a Nollywood actor, has initiated legal action against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Lere Olayinka, a media aide to Minister Nyesom Wike. The suit, filed on June 15, 2026, at the Federal High Court in Abuja, alleges a violation of Ike's right to privacy due to the unauthorized disclosure of his voter registration details on Olayinka's official X handle.

INEC, represented by Anthonia Makwe, stated in a counter affidavit that the information in question is neither classified nor confidential and is published according to the Electoral Act 2026. The electoral body asserts its right to disclose voter information without consent.

Olayinka, through his counsel Akpama Ekwe, contends that the published information, which included Ike's name and passport photograph, was already in the public domain and did not require consent. Ike is seeking N10 billion in damages and a public apology.
