Emir of Zazzau Supports 100% Salary Increase for Rulers

Ambassador Ahmed Bamalli, the Emir of Zazzau and Chairman of the Council of Chiefs, has expressed his support for a proposed 100% increase in salaries and allowances for traditional rulers in Kaduna State. Speaking to journalists at his palace in Zaria on Friday, Bamalli described the proposed pay rise as a "welcome relief," emphasizing that the current earnings of traditional rulers are inadequate given the economic challenges facing the country.

He noted that traditional rulers are not exempt from the economic hardships affecting ordinary Nigerians, including declining purchasing power and rising living costs. Bamalli revealed that the proposal has been under consideration for approximately seven months, with the involvement of the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Sadiq Mamman-Lagos.

He expressed confidence that the new pay structure would be implemented soon and commended Governor Sani and Commissioner Mamman-Lagos for their commitment to the traditional institution. If approved, the increase would double the current salaries and allowances for traditional rulers in the state.
