Emir of Zazzau Backs 100% Salary Increase for Rulers

Ambassador Ahmed Bamalli, the Emir of Zazzau and Chairman of the Kaduna State Council of Chiefs, has expressed support for a proposed 100% increase in salaries and allowances for traditional rulers in Kaduna State. Speaking on Friday at his palace in Zaria, he described the increment as a “welcome relief,” emphasizing that the current remuneration is insufficient due to the rising cost of living and the declining value of the naira.

Bamalli noted that the proposal has been under consideration for about seven months, with efforts from Governor Uba Sani and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Sadiq Mamman-Lagos, aimed at its implementation. He expressed optimism that the new remuneration would soon be realized.

The Emir praised the government officials for their commitment to the traditional institution and highlighted the importance of traditional rulers in governance, particularly in conflict resolution and community mobilization. He also mentioned the Zazzau Emirate's success in resolving over 2,000 civil cases through alternative dispute resolution in the past two years.
