Employers Demand Review of FG Economic Reforms in Abuja

Employers in Nigeria are urging a review of federal government reforms introduced to address economic challenges, as they continue to face high energy costs, inflation, and unstable exchange rates. This call was made during a two-day employment summit in Abuja, themed "Leveraging Reform for Enterprise Competitiveness and Inclusive National Growth." Ifeanyi Okoy, representing the Nigeria Employers Consult Association (NECA), emphasized the need for a comprehensive review of the reforms' impact on businesses and employment.

Richard Ayibiowu, NECA's treasurer, noted that while the government has pursued significant reforms over the past three years to strengthen fiscal sustainability and enhance public financial management, the true measure of these reforms lies in their actual impact on ordinary Nigerians. The summit provided a platform for stakeholders to assess the progress of the reform agenda and identify practical solutions to improve enterprise competitiveness, particularly for MSMEs, which are struggling under the current economic burden.
