Tinubu Advocates for Africa's Permanent UN Security Council Seats

In his address to the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, President Bola Tinubu, delivered by Vice President Kashim Shettima, challenged the existing global power structure established post-World War II. He demanded a fundamental restructuring of the United Nations Security Council to grant Africa permanent representation, insisting that the continent should not be excluded from permanent membership while being central to the Council's agenda.

Tinubu called for at least two permanent seats for Africa, with veto power, and five non-permanent seats. He emphasized the need for an end to armed conflicts and a commitment to the UN Charter principles, warning that global conflicts cannot be treated as distant issues.

Tinubu urged world leaders to prioritize dialogue and international law over coercion and nationalism, advocating for the restoration of confidence in multilateral institutions.
