Tinubu Calls for Stronger Engineering Regulations in Nigeria

On October 24, 2023, President Bola Tinubu addressed the 34th Engineering Assembly in Abuja, calling for stronger regulations and the deployment of sanctions by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). He emphasized the need for a data-driven enforcement system to prioritize public safety in engineering practices.

Tinubu, represented by Minister of Works David Umahi, stated that engineering failures could lead to loss of lives and diminished public confidence. He reaffirmed the administration's commitment to delivering durable infrastructure, highlighting that every road project should last between 50 to 100 years.

COREN President Prof. Zubair Abubakar noted the council's achievements, including the introduction of admission quotas for engineering programs and nationwide compliance inspections.

Aliko Dangote, representing the Dangote Group, stressed that public trust in engineering is crucial for industrial growth and investor confidence in Nigeria.
