COREN Launches Task Force to Combat Engineering Quackery

The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) has taken significant steps to address engineering malpractice and quackery in the country. During its 189th ordinary council meeting, COREN approved the establishment of a 90-day engineering regulatory monitoring and enforcement rapid response task force.

This task force is designed to intensify the fight against unqualified practitioners and strengthen project monitoring to prevent building collapses and engineering-related failures. COREN's initiative is part of a broader effort to safeguard lives and properties amid concerns over recurrent incidents of building collapses.

The council also approved the formation of an engineering disciplinary tribunal to address cases of professional misconduct and enforce ethical standards within the profession. Additionally, COREN plans to launch a nationwide public awareness campaign to educate Nigerians about the dangers of engaging unregistered engineering practitioners, emphasizing the importance of hiring qualified professionals for engineering projects.
