Onitsha Market Traders End Monday Sit-at-Home, Pledge Full Business Resumption

Onitsha Main Market traders have announced the cessation of their adherence to the Monday sit-at-home directive, expressing readiness to fully resume business operations. The decision was made during an interaction session with the Anambra State Governor, following weeks of economic paralysis due to the prolonged closure of markets enforced by the Monday shutdown.

Speaking on behalf of the traders, Chairman Chijiok Okpalugo pledged the market's support for the government's vision of uniting the economy in Anambra State. However, Okpalugo emphasized the need for enhanced security around the market to guarantee the safety of traders and buyers.

Governor Soludo declared that markets and shops across Anambra State would remain open every working day, including Mondays, stressing that the era of sit-at-home-induced closures must end as the state can no longer afford the economic losses associated with weekly shutdowns. Soludo also presented options for the market's renovation or redevelopment into a modern trade hub, emphasizing the need for uninterrupted business activities.

The Governor warned against continued defiance of the sit-at-home order, promising a complete overhaul of the state's security architecture to protect Anambra's commercial center and restore confidence in economic activities.
