NAFDAC Confirms Corps Member's Death Not Due to Medicines

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) issued a statement on October 18, clarifying that the death of a Corps member in Enugu was not caused by substandard or falsified medicines. According to Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the Director-General of NAFDAC, the deceased was initially admitted to the NYSC Orientation Camp clinic on October 7 with severe malaria symptoms and a known history of peptic ulcer disease.
After receiving treatment, he was discharged on October 8. However, he returned on October 10 with complaints of right thigh pain and was found to have low blood pressure.
Despite stabilization efforts and referral to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), he went into a coma upon arrival, and resuscitation attempts failed. It was later revealed that he had been vomiting for two days prior to his second admission, a detail unknown to the camp clinic doctor.
Other patients treated with the same medications recovered successfully.
