Rangers International Advances in CAF Champions League

On September 11, 2024, Rangers International, the Nigeria Premier Football League champions, secured their place in the second round of the CAF Champions League by defeating Benin Republic champions AS Sobemap 5-4 on penalties in Lomé, Togo. The match followed a 1-1 draw in Abeokuta the previous weekend, resulting in the same scoreline after 90 minutes in Lomé, which led to a penalty shootout.

Rangers missed their first penalty but maintained composure as AS Sobemap failed to convert two of their attempts. The Nigerian champions, under the management of Fidelis Ilechukwu, successfully held their nerve to win the shootout and advance.

This victory provides Rangers another opportunity to make an impact in Africa's premier club competition after their previous campaign ended in the preliminary stages. They qualified for the current edition after winning the NPFL title in 2024.

In the next round, they will face either MC Alger or ASN Nigelec of Niger Republic.
