Rangers International Advances in CAF Champions League

Rangers International, the Premier Football League champions, secured their place in the next round of the CAF Champions League by overcoming Benin Republic champions AS Sobemap 5-4 on penalties on Friday in Lomé, Togo. This followed a 1-1 draw in regulation time, mirroring the result from the first leg in Abeokuta.

Despite missing their first penalty kick, Rangers maintained their composure while AS Sobemap faltered, allowing the Nigerian champions to clinch victory. Under the management of Fidelis Ilechukwu, Rangers will now prepare to face either MC Alger of Algeria or ASN Nigelec from Niger Republic in the next round.

MC Alger and ASN Nigelec played to a goalless draw in their first leg. Rangers, with a rich history in African club football, last participated in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League after winning the NPFL title in 2024 but failed to reach the group stage.

They are now determined to make a significant impact in this year’s competition.
