Everton appeared to be the stronger side during the match and nearly took the lead in the 50th minute when Thierno Barry's close-range header was saved by Tottenham goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky.

Kinsky was again tested in the 65th minute after a poor pass led to a chance for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, but he managed to block the shot. The draw leaves Tottenham with only two points from their first four league matches, placing them 17th in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone, while Everton remains unbeaten in seventh place.
