Chelle Targets Foreign-Born Players for Super Eagles

Eric Chelle, the current coach of the Super Eagles, is actively reshaping the team by targeting foreign-born players who are eager to represent Nigeria. Chelle has made it clear that Nigeria will not turn its back on players born abroad.

He has already secured commitments from defenders Felix Agu and Ryan Alebiosu, as well as Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo. Reports indicate that five eligible players are currently in discussions with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The latest addition to this conversation is Emmanuel Fernandez, a 24-year-old central back born in London to Nigerian parents, who has pledged his international allegiance to Nigeria after impressing with Rangers in Scotland. Fernandez has had a standout season, scoring four goals in 17 league appearances and winning the club's Player of the Month award in January.

Chelle emphasized that selections will be based on merit rather than sentiment as he prepares for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, aiming for a balanced and competitive squad.
