EU Allocates €235 Million for Humanitarian Aid in Africa

On [date not specified], the European Commission announced a €235 million humanitarian aid package aimed at supporting vulnerable populations in West and Central Africa. This funding is intended to address the ongoing conflicts and food crises that have led to the forcible displacement of people and affected host communities.

In Nigeria alone, 33 million individuals will benefit from life-saving health and nutrition actions, particularly in the northeast and northwest regions, where the country is facing its worst food and nutrition crisis in recent years. Approximately 6.4 million children are acutely malnourished, with 2 million in life-threatening conditions.

The aid will also prioritize health services, education, emergency shelter, and water, sanitation, and hygiene. The funding will cover disaster preparedness and humanitarian transport operations, with a focus on reaching hard-to-access populations.

Additional allocations are made for Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, and Mauritania to support similar humanitarian needs.
