EU Commits €33 Million Humanitarian Aid to Nigeria

The European Union (EU) has pledged €33 million in humanitarian assistance to Nigeria, targeting crises affecting populations in the northeast and northwest regions. This commitment was announced during a high-level meeting in Abuja, co-chaired by Nigeria's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas.

The aid is part of a broader humanitarian partnership aimed at ensuring timely delivery of assistance and strengthening resilience while supporting a transition to a nation-led humanitarian response. The joint communiqué also highlighted significant financial investments, including €73 million for various projects, €555 million in loans from the European Investment Bank to support small and medium enterprises, and additional funding for healthcare and agriculture.

The EU reaffirmed its commitment to deepening economic ties with Nigeria, enhancing security cooperation, and addressing root causes of conflict, while also discussing renewable energy investments and migration partnerships.
