EU Strengthens Development Ties with Kano State

The European Union delegation, headed by Ambassador Gautier Mignot, visited Kano State to enhance development partnerships. The delegation included representatives from EU member states, UNICEF, and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit.

They met with Kano State's Deputy Governor Murtala Sule Garo and representatives of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to discuss urban development strategies, youth empowerment, and social inclusion opportunities. Garo reaffirmed the state's commitment to fostering strategic partnerships and emphasized the importance of urban development in promoting sustainable city growth and improving infrastructure.

The delegation also toured various EU-supported projects, including an accelerated education program and a plan for a Qur'anic education center, aimed at improving access to quality education and child protection services. UNICEF's Nigeria Country Director, Charl Usi, stressed the need for continued investment in learning opportunities, particularly for vulnerable children.

The visit concluded with participation in the North West Governor Forum, focusing on policy dialogue to reduce multidimensional poverty, with the EU reiterating its commitment to supporting inclusive development across northern Nigeria.
