Kano State and EU Collaborate to Boost Agriculture

On Wednesday, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reaffirmed his administration's commitment to strengthening partnerships with international development agencies, particularly the European Union (EU), to accelerate agricultural transformation and economic growth in the state. During a meeting with an EU delegation, which included Hugh Brigg, the governor emphasized the importance of agriculture as a major driver of development and outlined plans to modernize the livestock sector.

The administration aims to implement artificial insemination services and deploy modern farming equipment to support farmers across the agricultural value chain. Governor Yusuf highlighted the potential for job creation and poverty reduction, particularly for youth and women, through this partnership.

The EU representatives expressed their commitment to climate-smart agriculture and improving food security. Dr.

Andrea Ruedigar from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit noted the ongoing projects in Nigeria, including five in Kano, focusing on enhancing agricultural value chains and reducing post-harvest losses.
