EU Chooses Ekiti for Deforestation-Free Cocoa Project

The European Union selected Ekiti State as a pilot location to implement the Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) Compliance Project in Nigeria. The State Commissioner of Agriculture, Ebenezer Boluwade, announced this partnership during the TRACE Project team's visit to the state capital.

The EUDR, effective from January 2026, aims to ensure that cocoa and other products exported to the EU are not linked to deforestation. Ekiti State's selection recognizes its strong forestry regulations and commitment to sustainable farming practices.

The state is already implementing clear guidelines to protect forest areas and promote sustainable agriculture, aligning with the EUDR objectives and enhancing land management practices.
