EU to Grant €20 Million Defense Aid to Nigeria's Armed Forces

The European Union is set to provide €20 million in defense assistance to Nigeria, as stated by Minister of Defence Gen Christopher Musa (retd.). This support will aid the Nigerian Armed Forces in combating insecurity and will be delivered under the European Peace Facility.
A technical delegation from the EU is scheduled to visit Abuja in November to finalize the delivery modalities. The announcement was made through a statement by Musa’s aide, Leah Katung-Babatunde.
Musa met with EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, to discuss defense bilateral agreements and security cooperation. He expressed gratitude for the EU's ongoing support and reaffirmed the Nigerian government's commitment to ensuring safety.
Musa noted that while relative peace is returning, challenges such as kidnapping and attacks on communities persist. Nigeria is also expecting the delivery of ten attack helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles through the efforts of President Bola Tinubu's administration.
Musa emphasized the importance of addressing regional security issues, particularly concerning the Lake Chad Basin.
